Privacy Policy

Family Dashboard (the “Service,” available at disterdick.tech) is a private household scheduling and organization application used by the members of a single family. It brings together calendars, chores, learning activities, and other day-to-day household information in one place. Access is restricted to a small list of approved household Google accounts.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Service handles, how it is used, and the choices available to the authorized people who use it. Because the Service is operated privately for one household, it is not a general-purpose consumer product and is not offered to the public.

Google Calendar data

When an authorized household member signs in with Google, the Service requests permission to access that member’s Google Calendar. The Service uses Google Calendar data only to display, create, update, and synchronizefamily schedules — and only as initiated or configured by an authorized household user. For example, it reads upcoming events to show them on the dashboard, and it creates or updates events when a household member adds or edits a family activity.

The Service does not use Google Calendar data, or any other Google user data, for any purpose unrelated to providing and improving these household scheduling features. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not transfer it to others except as described below.

Google Tasks data

When an authorized household member signs in with Google, the Service also requests permission to access that member’s Google Tasks. This powers the shared chore and to-do features of the dashboard, so the household manages one set of tasks instead of keeping a separate copy inside the app.

What the Service reads.It reads the signed-in member’s Google Tasks task lists and the taskswithin them — including each task’s title, notes, due date, and completion status — in order to show household chores and to-dos on the dashboard and on each family member’s page. Completed tasks are read only when a household member chooses to view them.

What the Service writes.Acting only on an authorized household member’s request, the Service creates tasks (for example, adding a chore that then appears in Google Tasks), marks tasks complete when they are checked off in the dashboard, and reopens tasks that were completed by mistake by returning them to a not-completed state. These writes keep the dashboard and Google Tasks synchronized.

What the Service does not do. It does not delete tasks, and it does not create, rename, or delete task lists. It does not read or modify the Google Tasks data of anyone who is not a signed-in, authorized household member.

Why the read-only scope is not sufficient. The narrower tasks.readonlyscope permits reading tasks only; it cannot create a task, mark one complete, or reopen one. Those three write actions are core to how the household uses the dashboard — adding a chore and checking it off is the primary purpose of the feature — so a read-only scope would leave the dashboard unable to do the one thing it is built for. Google Tasks offers exactly two OAuth scopes, tasks.readonly and tasks, and there is no intermediate “create and update only” scope. The Service therefore requests https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks, the narrowest scope Google offers that supports the write actions described above, and it uses that access solely for those actions.

Google API Services User Data Policy & Limited Use

The Service’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. This applies to bothGoogle Calendar data and Google Tasks data. In keeping with Limited Use, Google user data is used only to provide or improve the household scheduling, chore, and to-do features described above, is not sold, is not used for advertising, is not used to build profiles or train generalized artificial intelligence or machine learning models, and is not shared with others except as needed to provide the Service, to comply with applicable law, or with the user’s consent. No humans read Google Calendar or Google Tasks data except as necessary for security purposes, to comply with applicable law, or with the user’s explicit consent.

Other information we handle

To sign you in, the Service stores your Google account email and a secure session token so it can confirm you are on the approved household list. It also stores the household content you create in the app — such as schedules, chores, notes, and learning progress — so it is available the next time you sign in.

At sign-in the Service requests only these Google permissions: openid, userinfo.email, and userinfo.profile to identify you and verify you are an approved household member; calendar.events for the calendar features; and tasks for the Google Tasks features. It does not request access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts, or any other Google service.

How information is shared

We do not sell or rent your information, including Google Calendar and Google Tasks data. Information may be disclosed only in limited circumstances: to service providers (such as hosting and Google’s API services) that help operate the Service and are permitted to use the information only for that purpose; when required to comply with applicable law or a valid legal request; or to protect the rights, safety, and security of the household and the Service. Google Calendar and Google Tasks data is not transferred to any advertising, data broker, or analytics provider.

Within the household, calendar events and tasks that an authorized member adds to the shared family view are visible to the other authorized household members who use the dashboard. That is the intended purpose of a shared family dashboard.

Security

We take reasonable and appropriate measures to protect information, including transport encryption (HTTPS), restricting sign-in to an approved list of household accounts, and using signed, HTTP-only session cookies. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to safeguard the information the Service handles.

Data retention and deletion

Google Calendar and Google Tasks data is retained only for as long as it is needed to provide the household scheduling, chore, and to-do features, and it is fetched fresh from Google for display rather than kept longer than necessary. The Service stores the OAuth tokens needed to keep making those requests on your behalf.

An authorized household member may withdraw access at any time by revoking the app’s permissions at Google Account permissions, or by contacting us at the address below. Revoking access immediately stops the Service from reading or writing that member’s Google Calendar and Google Tasks data. On request, or when access is revoked, the stored tokens and associated stored data for that member are deleted. Revoking access does not remove events or tasks already saved in Google’s own services — those remain under the member’s control in Google Calendar and Google Tasks.

Children and family context

The Service is designed for use by a single household and may display activities and learning progress for children in that family, entered and supervised by the parents or guardians who administer the Service. It is not directed to the general public and does not knowingly collect information from children outside of this private, parent-supervised household context. We do not claim any formal certification under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) or similar programs.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
